Event Name: Public/Private Partnerships – their challenges, risks, benefits and successes

 

Nature of the CPD Event: Presentation

 

 

Course overview:

This course takes a close look at the challenges encountered, the risks involved, and the benefits derived in Public/Private Partnerships (PPP)

 

Section one will cover:

 

1.      What is a PPP?

2.      The South African Regulatory framework

3.      The sequence of events required by the Public sector

4.      Important considerations for both the Public and Private sectors

5.      The special report compiled for the Minister of Correctional Services regarding BEE issues

6.      The benefits to the community throughout the project and beyond

 

Section two looks at:

                     1.      The Gautrain project.

                     2.      The risks associated with PPP projects

 

Section three takes into account:

 

1.      A case study on the Mangaung Maximum Security Prison for 3000 prisoners.

         This includes the security slides of the inside and outside of the facility.

 

After completing this course, you should be more familiar with the concept and details surrounding Public/Private Partnerships and more open to the opportunities presented thereby.

 

 

Course presenter:

 

Tony Parker served as a Director on various boards for 25 of the 32 years he spent at Murray & Roberts. During his last 10 years with the company he was a Director of their Concessions Company, acting as the Government’s contact person and Consortium co-ordinator for a variety of PPP contracts.

The current economic and political climate has resulted in a renewed focus on PPP’s. Tony is able to provide insight into what can be expected, and how PPP projects can be managed for successful results.
