The Technikon Pretoria Professional Practice
Programme For 2003
The Pretoria Technikon is hosting a Professional
Practice Programme, as preparation for the Professional Practice
Examination of the South African Council for the Architectural
Profession (SACAP).
The primary purpose of this Programme is to prepare candidates
for the examinations for admission to any of the four levels
of professional registration as defined by the Architectural
Profession Act No 44 of 2000. The secondary purpose is to
complement mid-career courses by bringing established practitioners
up to date with regard to the latest legislation, trends and
processes, affecting and shaping the profession.
10 monthly 1/2 day workshop-style sessions
will commence on 7 February 2003 at the Technikon Pretoria,
Main Campus. But candidates who cannot attend most of these
sessions, whether local or from other parts of the country,
would be accommodated by means of a telematic (distance learning)
programme that will run parallel to the workshops. The full
course will cost
R 1 680, 00
Telematic learning allows candidates
regardless of where they are located to receive
lectures, submit assignments, communicate with instructors
and other course members, and be evaluated, all by means of
the Internet
The programme will be based on the
requirements listed in the Council's Training Policy documents
and will be compatible with the Syllabus for Part 3 Programmes
of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The course will be the recognized way
to Register at the end of the period stipulated in various
course structures, with SACAP, and is a requirement of SACAP
to enable registration. The existing Mentor and examination
system of SACAP will cease to be available after March 2003.

Building
Costs Review August 2002
Building costs race ahead
Consumer prices (excluding interest paid on mortgage loans), broke
through the 10% barrier and entered double digit inflation territory
when they rose 10,8%, year on year, in August 2002. This is bad
news for consumers, already tightening their belts after four consecutive
increases in the interest rate, currently at 17%. There are no visible
signs of inflation moderating, as yet, it is likely to increase
further during the course of the
next few months.
