World
Bank Procurement Methods and Procedures: The Role of the Quantity
Surveyor
The profession of Quantity Surveying has developed over the years
from its origins of being technical measurers and assessors to the
Building Industry to the present multi-faceted field of expertise
serving cost and procurement management services to an ever increasing
array of projects. In a world becoming a 'Global village', driven
by spectacular advances in internet, telecommunications, computers
and other technologies, the World Bank with 184 member countries,
increasingly plays dominant role in procurement methods, by developing
standards that are applicable to its funded projects in all member
countries. The challenge before the Quantity Surveying profession
and indeed all other participating professions is to optimize their
opportunities within the set rules and procedures of the procurement
process. Click

An elderly couple...
...was getting on in years and losing their memory. So they
decide to take a memory course. They take the course and the
husband is thrilled; he feels it has changed his life.
He and his wife meet their friend on the street and the husband
says to him, "Bill, you just have to take this incredible
memory course my wife and I just attended, it's fantastic!
You won't believe the improvement."
Bill says, "Wow, great, what's the name of the course?"
The man says, "What's the name of that flower? You know
the one with the long stem and the thorns?"
"You mean a rose?" his friend replies.
"Yeah, that's it!" answers the man, who then turns
to his wife. "Rose, what was the name of that memory
course we took?"
One day a first grade teacher...
was reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to her
class. She came to the part of the story where the first pig
was trying to accumulate the building materials for his home.
She read, "And so the pig went up to the man with the
wheelbarrow full of straw and said, 'Pardon me sir, but may
I have some of that straw to build my house?'"
The teacher paused and then asked the class, "And what
do you think that man said?"
One little boy raised his hand and went, "I think he
probably said, 'I'll be damned! A talking pig!'"

Blind Man Reward
A blind man was standing with his dog in a corner when the
dog raised his leg and let rip on his trouser. The man took
out a biscuit from his pocket and was about to give the dog
the same. Suddenly, he heard a lady saying, "You should
not do that. He'll never learn anything if you reward him
when he does something like that."
The blind man retorted, "I'm not rewarding him. I'm
just trying to find his mouth so that I can kick him in the
butt for what he just did".
Some thoughts on marriage...
Marriages are made in heaven. But so again, are thunder and
lightning.
A man is incomplete until he is married. After that, he is
finished.
