POST GRAD CERTIFICATE COURSE : CONSTRUCTION ADJUDICATION

In order to assist individual adjudicators practicing in the South African construction industry to stay abreast of developments in construction adjudication practice (both locally and internationally) and improve their performance and to support the professional development of a growing number of construction and legal professionals wishing to gain formal qualifications in construction adjudication and construction contract law, MDA Consulting (Pty) Ltd together with the Department of Construction Economics and Continuing Education at the University of Pretoria (CE@UP) have developed and shall be running a Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Construction Adjudication starting 31 January 2013.

The Certificate Programme is the first of its kind to be offered to the South African construction industry and has been specifically designed to produce the "…highest standard of competent and qualified adjudicators…” to officiate contractual construction adjudication procedures between the various stakeholders operating through the South African construction industry when either appointed by the parties themselves or nominated by the CIDB. The Certificate Programme is open to construction and legal professionals, who have experience in the construction industry and currently advise and/or assist and/or represent parties to construction adjudications, practice as adjudicators themselves, intend practicing as adjudicators or have a particular interest in construction law, claims and contracts.

The Certificate Programme is designed for part time study over a period of 8 months. The syllabus consists of the following four taught modules:

Module One (A): Introduction to South African Law and Legal Theory (For Non Lawyers)
Module One (B): Construction Practice and Technology (For Lawyers)
Module Two: South African and International Construction Law - Principles and Application (All delegates)
Module Three: Construction Claims and Disputes (All delegates)
Module Four: Dispute Resolution and Adjudication Procedure and Practice (All delegates)

 

Who should attend:

The Certificate Programme is specifically designed for both construction and legal professionals who have experience in the construction industry and currently advise and / or assist and / or represent parties to construction adjudications I practice as adjudicators themselves, intend practicing as adjudicators or have a particular interestin construction law , claims and contracts.
