NOTICE FROM THE SAIA PRESIDENT, Jan Willem Ras, re ARCHITECTURE SOUTH AFRICA

Dear Readers and Supporters of Architecture South Africa

During the August 2002 meeting of the SAIA Board of Representatives, I mentioned my intention to consult with the Editor and the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) of the official Journal of SAIA before the end of the year. This meeting will take place soon, and has been scheduled for Saturday 23 November 2002.

During recent travels to several Regional Institutes and Universities members and non-members of SAIA commented on different aspects regarding the Journal: the content, the management, et cetera. To enable me to draft a publication policy for the SAIA Journal, your formal input will be appreciated.

Please submit any comments (positive or negative) to Su Linning: admin@saia.org.za not later than Monday 18 November 2002. The origin of all comments will be treated confidentially, and will be included anonymously in a general discussion document.

After the meeting with the EAB a draft policy will be prepared, and circulated for comment. I intend to table the final draft policy for adoption by the SAIA Board of Representatives in February 2003.

Thank you for your participation in this process.

Thanks to the PIA for the information drop them a note at admin.pia@saia.org.za

DID YOU HEAR ?

Benny the horse

An out-of-towner accidentally drives his car into a deep ditch on the side of a country road. Luckily a farmer happened by with his big old horse
named Benny.

The man asked for help. The farmer said Benny could pull his car out. So he backed Benny up and hitched Benny to the man's car bumper.

Then he yelled, "Pull, Nellie, pull."

Benny didn't move.

Then he yelled, "Come on, pull Ranger."

Still, Benny didn't move.

Then he yelled really loud, "Now pull, Fred, pull hard."

Benny just stood.

Then the farmer nonchalantly said,
"Okay, Benny, pull."

Benny pulled the car out of the ditch.

The man was very appreciative but curious. He asked the farmer why he called his horse by the wrong name three times.

The farmer said, "Oh, Benny is blind, and if he thought he was the only one pulling he wouldn't even try."
