NEDCOR has followed up its R1bn issue of preference shares to institutional
investors last week with the launch of a further R1bn offer, this
time to retail investors with at least R100000 to invest. The issues
will boost Nedcor's primary capital, after it used up much of its
surplus capital on its R7,5bn purchase of BoE earlier this year.

Possibility
of El Nio hurts good PPI news
Index shows food inflation declining. FEARS that a multiyear drought
would slash the maize crop for the next few years have dampened
positive news from October's producer price index (PPI) released
yesterday, showing food inflation was on the decline. Experts have
warned that a severe El Nio weather pattern could develop next year,
compounding the effects of the current drought disrupting the maize
planting season.

MEDS: OUR OWN MEDICAL SCHEME
As you might have heard by now, Vincent Knox of PBC (Profhealth
Benefits Consulting (Pty) Ltd) has been successful in registering
a restricted Medical Scheme for the Built Environment Professional
Associations. The Scheme was approved by the Registrar of Medical
Schemes on the 9th November 2002 and will come into effect on the
1st January 2003. By their own admission, it was one of the best
researched and prepared applications they have ever received
congratulations Vincent!
The Regulations require that the Scheme should have a minimum of
6 000 members within 3 months. As the members of SAACE, SAIA and
ASAQS stand to benefit from participation, we are confident that
this target will be reached.
Information and application forms are available on line at http://www.sovhealth.co.za/web/bepmeds/index.htm
Further queries about the scheme should be addressed to Vincent
Knox at (012) 460 0430 (mobile 083 676 0124).

A small gift...
On the last day of kindergarten, all the children brought
presents for their teacher. The florist's son handed the teacher
a gift. She shook it, held it up and said, "I bet I know
what it is - it's some flowers!"
"That's right!" shouted the little boy.
Then the candy store owner's daughter handed the teacher
a gift. She held it up, shook it and said. "I bet I know
what it is - it's a box of chocolates!"
"That's right!" shouted the little girl.
The next gift was from the liquor store owner's son, little
Johnny. The teacher held it up and saw that it was leaking.
She touched a drop with her finger and tasted it.
"Is it wine?" she asked. "No," little
Johnny answered.
The teacher touched another drop to her tongue. "Is
it champagne?" she asked. "No," he answered.
Finally, the teacher said, "I give up. What is it?"
Little johnny replied, "A puppy!"
