MEET THE PAST- PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICAN QUANTITY SURVEYORS 2008/2009
At a meeting held on 02-03 April 2008, the Board of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) elected Prof Rob Pearl as President of the ASAQS. Prof Pearl was born in Cape Town in 1951 and matriculated at Pinelands High School. He obtained his professional qualifications at the University of Cape Town and has been employed in the consulting sector of the profession since 1969.
He has actively served the profession on many committees since 1975 and has been an elected member of the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession for 2 terms of office. He has also been active in community affairs and is a past chairman of a prominent welfare organisation.
He was employed as a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town from 1986 to 1994, when he was appointed as Professor of Quantity Surveying at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal. Prof Pearl has published widely and is an appointed member of the Africa, India and Middle East Education Standards Board of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He travels extensively, including bi-annual working stints in Singapore.
Rob is a keen sports follower, in his earlier years having played soccer at provincial and national (amateur) levels, as well as having achieved provincial recognition for bowls. He has been married to Anne since 1976 and they have five children, 2 daughters and 3 sons.
