Nature of the CPD Event: Lecture and presentation

 

Course overview:

This one-day BIM awareness workshop is aimed at organizations or individuals who are seeking to develop their staff and managements knowledge and understanding of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) process.

 

Attendees will learn the fundamental concepts of BIM processes together with business benefits and the critical factors for successful BIM implementation on projects. Starting with understanding a BIM strategy and working within a Common Data Environment and the importance of producing information into one single source.

Attendees will progress to understand the various project delivery methods and by the end of the workshop will have covered critical processes, workflows and deliverables necessary for BIM in a project life cycle.

By introducing this level of BIM awareness into organizations, delegates can differentiate by offering unique BIM learning opportunities. Companies and consultants in an operational environment can visualise processes and make better guiding decisions for understanding BIM on a project. 

BIM requires the interaction and collaboration of architects, engineers, planners, quantity surveyors, contractors and suppliers throughout the project delivery cycle. This process needs to be planned, resourced and managed using BIM. 

The one day course comprises a mixture of presentations, practical exercises and introduces the various project delivery methods that use BIM, defining BIM roles. How to setup and define a common data environment (CDE), understanding the roles and responsibilities on a BIM project. 

Course presenter:

Vaughan has been involved in various sectors of the construction industry locally and internationally since graduating as a Quantity Surveyor in 1994.

While working in Australia with a cloud-based project management company, he had the opportunity to be involved in p various projects ranging from infrastructure to transport. 

His 7 years with CCS (Construction Computer Software) gave him the opportunity of working closely with most of South Africa‚Äôs largest industry specialists in defining their systems and processes as well as being involved in implementing the information management system for Transnet Infrastructure projects. 

Vaughan also in the past has lectured in the Department of Construction and Economics Management at the University of Cape Town, transferring knowledge learnt on new generation technology for the construction industry. In addition to his role as the Director for the BIM Institute, he is also founder for the BIM Academy Africa and editor on one of the top 30 BIM blogs on the internet.
