Event name: Life cycle costing and the Quantity Surveyor

Nature of CPD event: Half Day interactive course

Course overview:

Life Cycle Costing (LCC) is a management tool that details the operating costs of individual building elements, complete building systems, or other assets such as machinery. Developers are confronted throughout the development process with having to make choices between different types of systems or materials to use in their developments and which must be weighed up against each other. A clear understanding of LCC   principles, methodologies and techniques will enable stakeholders to apply life cycle costing to successfully deliver and control the building program throughout its life cycle.

Quantity surveyors are skilled in forecasting and analysing historical cost data and are intimately involved with all cost aspects of a project. The profession, therefore, has the experience to apply LCC techniques and is ideally suited to convince clients of the advantages and benefits that can be gained from a LCC approach.

This half-day course covers all aspects of LCC such as the history, why LCC is used, the importance of LCC in the building industry as well as LCC and sustainability. Furthermore when and how to conduct a LCC study will be addressed, including looking at the time value of money concept. The link between LCC and Value Management will also be covered.
