Course Overview:
We are pleased to bring you a continuation of the online panel discussion via webinar to address the contractual consequences of COVID-19. Hosted by EduTech, the panel will once more include Professor Tinus Maritz, Dr Hendrik Prinsloo and Mr Quintin De Klerk, all specialists in their field who are able to cover different aspects of the JBCC, FIDIC, NEC and GCC contracts. We may invite other representatives from the built environment to broaden the discussion. The informal debate will continue to discuss the effect of COVID-19 on construction projects and in particular, the contractual implications thereof. The programme will include a time for questions and answers.


Brad Boertje
Brad Boertje holds a B Sc in Quantity Surveying and is a fellow of the South African Association of Arbitrators. Brad spent 25 years working primarily with main contractors, and for 10 years held the position of Managing Director of the Building business unit at one of South Africa’s largest privately-owned construction groups. Brad is a commercial specialist, adjudicator, and arbitrator.

Professor Tinus Maritz
Prof Tinus Maritz is a Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor and a member of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors. He has vast experience in practice and academia, specialising in the field of construction law during the latter part of his career. As the acting CEO of the Joint Building Construction Committee (JBCC), a body which he has served on for many years, he brings a wealth of experience to the panel as an authority on the JBCC suite of contracts. 

Dr Hendrik Prinsloo
Dr HF Prinsloo holds a BSc. Construction Management, an Msc. Real Estate, and a PhD. He has extensive experience both in the field as a practicing professional construction project manager and as an academic. He currently resides in the USA and has recently authored a book titled, “Construction Delay Analysis Simplified”. Rooted in dedicated research and practical experience in delay analysis, Hendrik will provide insight on FIDIC and international perspectives.

Quintin de Klerk 
Quintin de Klerk has been in the construction industry for 21 years as a Professional (Civil) Engineer with a Degree, Consultant and Senior Executive.  Amongst others, he has applied his energies to Construction Project Management, Dispute Resolution and Claims Negotiation in the international arena.  He has experience in Corporate Management and Corporate Organisation and Strategic Analysis.  Additionally, he holds a Master’s Degree in Construction Law, Arbitration and Adjudication.  While Quintin is proficient in all the local forms of contract, his contribution today will be in terms of the NEC and GCC.

• Register and pay for the event
• Be present online for the duration of the webinar
• When the webinar is presented in parts, be present online for each part
• Participate by completing the “Polls”, and making use of the “Q&A” and/or the “Chat” functions
• Meeting these requirements will ensure that you receive an attendance certificate on completion of the webinar, or all the parts thereof when presented in parts

How are these requirements monitored?
• The webinar software records the time that you enter, and the time that you leave the webinar, providing proof of presence
• It also records every time you make use of the “Chat” or “Q&A” function and when you complete a “Poll”, all providing proof of participation
• The software identifies you by your e-mail address. To ensure the accuracy of your records, please use the same e-mail address when joining a webinar, or all the parts thereof when presented in parts
