The president of the ASAQS, Mr Bert van den Heever, visited the chapters in North-West and the Free State this week to talk to members about his thoughts on the procurement of government contracts and possible actions and solutions that the ASAQS are working on.

He analysed the origins of the present system and why it has resulted in the problems currently being experienced by all BEP's.

He touched on some of the needs that professional QS's would like to see met in the procurement system, such as:

• the need for high-quality services;
• the need for economy and efficiency;
• the need to give qualified consultants an opportunity to compete in providing the services; and
• the importance of transparency in the selection process.

He was accompanied on the trip by Elmarie Edwardes, Larry Feinberg and the vice-president Dr Stephan Ramabodu.

Elmarie did a comparison between Standard System 6 (2013 2nd revision) and Standard System 7 (2015) while Larry, as ED of the ASAQS gave attending members an overview of what has happened at the ASAQS over the past year and a taste of some of the exciting things being planned for 2016.

The presidential tour and SSM7 training will resume again early in 2016.
