More than 400 representatives from South Africa’s major construction groups attended the first South African CCS Candy User Seminar Roadshow held in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. The sessions were hosted by Candy developer, Construction Computer Software (CCS), as the industry prepares to emerge from a long slump in 2019.

They focused on the many benefits offered by Candy Estimating, Planning and Project Management software, which is suitably equipped to help and guide construction groups to manage the costs on complex construction projects from initial tendering processes to final project completion and hand-off.

The seminar provided Candy Users with a comprehensive overview of the complete construction project management functionality built into the software as well as the latest features. CCS briefed attendees on the launch of Candy Cloud and the upcoming release of Candy QTO 4, which features a fresh and more intuitive user interface, new measurement tools, the ability to upload high resolution CAD drawings, and support for Microsoft Project and Primavera.

This comes at a time that the South African construction industry is preparing for a recovery after a prolonged recession. Fitch Solutions forecasts that construction will grow 2.4% this year, while local government announced plans to accelerate R526 billion worth of projects through the infrastructure fund in the 2019/20 budget speech.

Says Andrew Skudder, CCS CEO: “South Africa’s construction industry has a vital role to play in the country’s growth and development. This comes at a crucial time as we address numerous challenges faced by construction companies, including socio-political issues such as spatial injustice and years of underinvestment in and poor maintenance of public infrastructure. Many of our clients are looking for ways to use technology to better position themselves for these opportunities.

“Technology holds the key to driving higher productivity, achieving cost-savings and improving project management against the backdrop of persistently challenging market conditions. Candy is specifically targeted to these requirements, enabling contractors to enhance their control and efficiency in every process, from quantity take-off, pricing and planning a project, controlling at site level, through to the issuing of final certificates.”

Further Candy User Seminars will be held in the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga later in the year.
