The Honourable Minister of Public Works has published in the Government Gazette a draft Policy document spelling out the proposed future of the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) and the six Professional Councils. In summary, the proposal is to close and absorb the CBE into Public Works and the Professional Councils would report directly to Public Works. The individual Professional Councils would retain their autonomy to regulate their individual professions.

According to Mr Steve Lyons, the Registrar at the SACQSP: "The proposal is a more efficient one than the current structure; however the cost of implementing the Public Finance Management Act (PFMS) will be costly and will have repercussions on fees payable annually."

If you wish to make comment on the document please send an email directly to with BEP Policy 2014 in the subject field before 27th June 2014.
