To All ASAQS Members,

It is with deep regret that I inform you of the sudden passing this week of Sam Mthethwa – an ASAQS Board Member and the current ASAQS Mpumalanga Chapter Chairperson.

Sam was a man of great insight, intelligence and professional acumen gained through dealing with all facets of the profession over 23 years of exposure and experience within the industry.

In 1996 Sam joined the Standerton branch of Hardstone & Partners (now Hardstone Mthethwa) as a junior Quantity Surveyor. Sam became a full partner at Hardstone Mthethwa in 1997.  He qualified as a PrQS in 2004 and thereafter became the 100% Principal of HM Hardstone Mthethwa Registered Quantity Surveyors in Standerton.

Not only was Sam an active and insightful ASAQS Board member and Chairperson of the ASAQS Mpumalanga Chapter but was also the past Chairman of the WF Te Water South African National Tuberculosis Association (SANTA) Centre in Standerton.

Sam has left a deep, lasting and profound impression on everybody that knew him. We are honoured and grateful for Sam’s lasting contribution that he made to our association and to the profession which he served in with such passion and integrity.

We will keep all members informed regarding the memorial / funeral arrangements through the ASAQS website. All individual letters of condolence may be sent to me directly at, to be given to the bereaved family.

May his dear soul rest in peace.

With great respect,

Larry Feinberg
Executive Director - ASAQS
