Are you an Excel fundi?

The original s-curve cash flow calculator that has been available for ages from the sundry resources section within the Members Only CUG was recently updated by Frans van der Walt of QS2000 to show graphs derived from a table which projects monthly and cumulative expenditure.

The Excel-based calculator is available for a limited time by clicking here.

We need your help to improve it even further!

So we decided to have a bit of a competition to find out who really excels at Excel... if you will pardon the pun!

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Download the calculator in it's current format and enhance it so that rows expand and contract automatically when the duration of the project is changed.
  2. Provide a new column in the table for progress payments to date. A graph reflecting the accumulative value of the payments to date should now be shown as a comparison to the standard s-flow graph. Actual payments should be shown against projected payments for each period.
  3. The number of payments may well exceed the duration of the project and the calculator should allow payments to be added after the project completion date.
  4. The calculator should also draw a simple least squares linear regression line derived from the payments to date on the cumulative payments graph.
  5.  Ensure that your entry not only looks good but is also tested for accuracy, functionality, etc. and ensure that the results can be printed on an A4 page.
  6. Brand the calculator with the ASAQS logo and send it to the webmaster of the ASAQS with a copy to the director of the EduTech Centre by clicking here.
  7. Please supply your name and contact details in the e-mail.

The rules are simple:

  • Your enhanced calculator should reach us before 12 noon on Friday the 29th September 2017
  • Submissions will be judged by the Webmaster, Mr Bert van den Heever and the Director of EduTech, Mr Karl Trusler. In the event of a tie, the Executive Director of the ASAQS, Mr Larry Feinberg, will have the deciding vote.
  • The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into after the closing date.
  • All submissions will belong to the ASAQS who may do with the calculators as they deem fit. The winning entry will be made available on an "open-source" basis to the members of the ASAQS with due recognition given to those who assisted in it's development.
  • The winner will be announced on Friday 6 October 2017.
