The ASAQS has formulated a guideline on how academics or students can be assisted and the SACQSP has also determined that registered quantity surveyors undertaking these surveys may claim 30 minutes in CPD category 2 for each survey completed.

Students doing their research, need your help to collect data for their thesis. Please assist by participating in these questionnaires (you can claim a half-hour of CPD2 for each completed survey)

Students, this is a free service! Please allow us three to five days, after receipt of your submission, to publish your survey on the website. Then check that it is in the following Weekend Property and Construction News. If not, then please notify us. The full survey will appear on the newsletter once, where after only the title will appear linked to this page until it closes. After the closing date for completion, it will no longer appear on the newsletter and no extensions to the closing date will be permitted.

  • Research Title: Construction Cost Estimating Through Artificial Neural Network: A South African Case Study.
    The Purpose of the Research: The purpose of the research is to demonstrate the practical application of machine learning to quantity surveying competencies, with the intent of developing a reliable cost prediction model that can be used for project cost prediction at the early stages of a project with minimum variation error.

  • Research Title: The adoption of sustainable practices by South African construction SMMEs using the Technology Acceptance Model
    The Purpose of the Research: The purpose is to explain how knowledge, incentives, clients and sustainable construction regulations, standards and certifications could influence the intention and encourage the actual adoption of sustainable construction practices among South African construction SMMEs.
    The Target Population: The target population are owners or employees of South African construction SMMEs. The employees will be limited to engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, construction managers, and project managers.

    The Purpose of the Research: The study seeks to determine the adaptation of various building automation systems for facility management in the South African construction industry, benefits and assess their challenges/problems existing or new and old ones. The study seeks to find a solution and improve facility management by integrating advanced available technologies to yield good performance. This study aims to assess how building automation systems can contribute to the advancement of facility management by improving cost management, client satisfaction, and overall building comfort.

  • Research Title: The Role of Quantity Surveyors in Promoting Sustainable Construction in the Building Industry in South Africa
    The Purpose of the Research: The study seeks to examine and analyse the knowledge and understanding of Quantity Surveyors' role in advancing sustainable construction, as well as its impact on the implementation of sustainable construction practices in South Africa, with the goal of contributing to the existing body of knowledge on sustainable construction.
    The Target Population: The target population for this research consists of professionals actively involved in the South African construction industry, specifically those with direct roles in implementing sustainable construction practices. This includes developers, contractors, and construction specialists such as Quantity Surveyors, architects, engineers, and project managers. These individuals will be selected through random sampling techniques, drawing from professional registers managed by relevant councils such as SACPCMP, SACQSP, SACAP, ECSA, and ASAQS. The selection process aims to ensure a diverse representation of industry insiders with various expertise.
