STUDENT PRIZES


As a gesture of our support the ASAQS sponsors an amount of R 7,000.00 per academic institution each year for quantity surveying student prizes.

  • Best 1st Year student: R 900.00
  • Best 2nd Year student: R 1,100.00
  • Best 3rd Year student: R 1,300.00
  • Best Honours/B-Tech student: R 1,600.00
  • Bell-John Award: Best “All Round” student in any year of study: R 1,600.00 plus a book prize worth R 500.00


 

AWARDS


The ASAQS is proud to honour top national academic achievers and emerging leaders through prestigious awards presented at an annual gala event. These awards include:

  • The ASAQS Gold Medal Award (BSc. QS (Hons) and BTech)
  • The ASAQS and Turner & Townsend Future Leaders Award (Third year of undergraduate BSc. or Diploma studies)
  • The ASAQS and Turner & Townsend Great Outcomes Award (Second year of undergraduate BSc. or Diploma studies)

The ASAQS Gold Medal Award

Nominations are requested from academic institutions for the annual Gold Medal Award for outstanding academic achievement during the preceeding academic year.  The Gold Medal Award is awarded at a national level to one BSc (Hons) graduate, as well as one B.Tech graduate, whose academic achievements are of outstanding merit and whose personal qualities promise to positively contribute to the profession.  Nominations are accepted from all SACQSP accredited universities.

An adjudication panel considers the nominations and makes their recommendations to the Merits and Awards Committee of the ASAQS for final approval. Academically, nominees should have completed their studies in the minimum number of years without failing or repeating any subject. They should have obtained an average mark exceeding 75% for all years of study, made up of an average mark exceeding 75% for the first three years of study combined, plus an average mark exceeding 75% for the fourth and final year of study.  Other assessment criteria, includes extramural activities, contribution to community, social responsibility, personality and leadership qualities. The weighting applied is 60% for academic achievement, and 40% for all other assessment criteria.

Nominations must include the following documentation:

  1. Marks obtained by the nominee in each subject for each year of study
  2. Class average marks for each subject in the corresponding years
  3. Curriculum Vitae of the nominee
  4. Reference Letter from the Head of Department

The above documents will be used in the adjudication process and need to clearly demonstrate the ability of the nominated candidate in the fields indicated.

The ASAQS and Turner & Townsend Future Leaders Award

The prestigious ASAQS Future Leaders Award is awarded annually at national level to only one BSc Quantity Surveying graduate as well as only one National Diploma Building graduate. These graduates should have completed their undergraduate studies in the preceding year and have academic achievements of outstanding excellence.  Nominations are invited from all SACQSP accredited universities.

An adjudication panel, consisting of several prominent academics as well as practitioners, will consider the nominations and make their recommendations to the Merits and Awards Committee of the ASAQS for final approval. Academically, nominees should have met the following criteria to be eligible for consideration of this prestigious award:

  • The Nominee should have completed their undergraduate studies in the minimum number of years without failing or repeating any subject;
  • They should have obtained and average mark exceeding 75% for each year of study, and
  • They should have obtained an average mark exceeding 75% for the three years of study combined.


Nominations must include the following documentation:

  1. Marks obtained by the nominee in each subject for each year of study;
  2. Class average marks for each subject in the corresponding years;
  3. CV of the nominee with all the relevant documentation / attachments, and
  4. A Testimonial / Reference from the Head of Department.

The ASAQS and Turner & Townsend Great Outcomes

The “ASAQS Turner & Townsend Great Outcomes Award” is awarded at national level to one student who is currently studying towards becoming a Quantity Surveyor. The student must have completed their second year of undergraduate study in the preceding year and have academic achievements of outstanding excellence. Nominations are invited from all SACQSP accredited universities.

An adjudication panel, consisting of several prominent academics as well as practitioners, will consider the nominations and make their recommendations to the Merits and Awards Committee of the ASAQS for final approval. Academically, nominees should have obtained the following criteria to be eligible for consideration of this prestigious award:

  • The Nominees should have completed their first and second year of undergraduate studies in the minimum number of years without failing or repeating any subject;
  • They should have obtained an average mark exceeding 75% for each year of study, and
  • They should have obtained an average mark exceeding 75% for the two years of study combined.


Nominations must include the following documentation:

  1. Marks obtained by the nominee in each subject for each year of study;
  2. Class average marks for each subject in the corresponding years;
  3. CV of the nominee with all the relevant documentation / attachments, and
  4. A Testimonial / Reference from the Head of Department.
