Wits students learn more about BIM

The ASAQS Wits Student Chapter together with the School of Construction Economics and Management had the opportunity to host Georg van Rensburg from ACE Solutions (WinQS) for a Guest Lecture Titled "BIM for QS's"

The following items regarding BIM were discussed :

3D Design For Architects
4D for Project Managers
5D for Quantity Surveyors
6D for Project Lice Cycle Cost
7D for Facility Managers
8D for Occupational Health and Safety

He further went on to describe"5D for Quantity Surveyors" in detail which included:

Elemental Estimate
BOQ
Evaluation
Final Account

Some of the things that Quantity Surveyors needs to pay attention when using 4D is:
1. Rounding-off of Quantities
2. Specification of New Items

Furthermore, Georg noted that when using BIM processes, communication and collaboration is very important. The process will never work without the two. If you want to be competitive as a Quantity Surveyor, make sure that you know the BIM process.
