KARL TRUSLER

Grew up and schooled in Empangeni, Zululand and graduated with a BSc. QS (Honours) from Wits University.

Employed for 3 years from 1980 as a Quantity Surveyor by Trescon Construction.

Self-employed as a residential property developer for 3 years from 1983 (trading as Karling Construction). Employed as a professional Quantity Surveyor and partner with van Vuuren & Partners for 6 years from 1986. Employed as a Pastor/Administrator at the Hatfield Christian Church for 22 years from 1993.

Currently employed as the EduTech Director at the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors from 2015

Additional activities:

• Currently a member of the Advisory Board for the Department of Construction Economics at the University of Pretoria (UP) (2015 to present)
• External examiner at UP for Facilities Management and MSc Real Estate research projects. Part-time lecturer in Business Management for BSc QS (Hons) and BSc Real Estate final year students, and guest lecturer for Financial Management. (2010 - 2016). Currently external examiner for Feasibility Studies
• Officer of the ICMS Board of Trustees since 2021
• Registered Professional Member of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors, and the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession
