At the recent BBCBE Built Environment Indaba, I had the honour of representing ASAQS in discussions that brought together government leaders, industry bodies, and professionals to tackle urgent issues in our sector - from transformation and infrastructure financing to regulatory reform and skills development.
In my address to the Minister, I stressed two urgent priorities:
1. The mandatory inclusion of Quantity Surveyors in all infrastructure audits and projects. Our profession plays a critical role in ensuring financial oversight, cost control, and project efficiency, and must be recognised as such in every project.
2. The need to reform slow and restrictive payment processes. Current delays caused by prolonged stage approvals and regulatory bottlenecks are crippling - especially for black-owned and emerging practices. Without change, the very businesses needed to drive transformation may not survive.
