ABOUT THE ASAQS ELEMENTAL CLASS

The ASAQS Elemental Class – Version 4 is a classification system derived from the ASAQS Guide to Elemental Cost Estimating 2016.

This classification system gives us the opportunity to classify ‘things’ in different ways in the construction environment, not only as a system but can also help us define BIM objects in a building. By standardizing such information using the ASAQS Elemental Class, communication among architects, specifiers, contractors and suppliers can be made far easier for project members to collaborate and for building owners’ in understanding their requirements, timelines and budgets far better.

  • The ASAQS Elemental classification is developed to classify elements and objects for construction and not derived for the built environment.

  • The classification system is not designed to replace any other classification systems but is a standard for designers to classify elements and objects allowing estimators and contractors to identify elements The ASAQS Elemental Class is the specifications standard for most construction buildings design. It contains a consistent WBS, classifying items of all scale from a substructure such as strip footings down through to products such as audio visual installations.

  • The ASAQS Elemental classification was developed by the BIM Institute in partnership with ASAQS and endorsed by South African Institute for Architects (SAIA).
